the innovators

what we did

We introduced Megane E-Tech 100% electric to pioneers in sustainability, innovation and design to capture their first impressions of our next-gen EV. Over the course of their in-depth discovery, we introduced them to Megane E-Tech's sleek design, ground-up sustainability, and innovative technology.

We put them behind the wheel to experience the dynamic drive and pure sensation, while sharing their expertise on the most exciting features of Megane E-Tech.

Now it's time to hear from a rocket scientist, an inventor, and two leading designers on why Megane E-Tech 100% electric is a true next-generation EV.

what they said

meet the innovators

“a gentler footprint”

Dr. Anita Vandyke is a pioneer of sustainability, a rocket scientist and medical doctor who believes in living a zero waste life. Anita was born in Guangzhou, China, raised in Australia, and currently splits her time between Sydney and San Francisco. Her first book, A Zero Waste Life: In thirty days, won Gold at the Nautilus Book Awards in 2019 and has been translated to seven languages.

“beautiful engineering”

Professor Veena Sahajwalla is a pioneer of innovation, an engineer, inventor and materials scientist who is renowned for leading research on waste and green manufacturing. Veena is also Founding Director of the Centre for Sustainable Materials Research and Technology at UNSW, and heads the ARC Transformation Research Hub for 'green manufacturing', working to ensure recycling science is translated into real world benefits.

“ready for the future”

Tamara Veltre and Jeremy McLeod are co-founders of Australia's most awarded sustainable architecture and design firm. Tamara and Jeremy founded Breathe in 2001, and have been at the forefront of sustainable design for over 20 years. Breathe were the instigators of Nightingale Housing, which provides apartments that are socially, financially and environmentally sustainable

intelligent and effortless

Megane E-Tech makes driving safe and simple. Smart traffic sign recognition takes advantage of the in-built camera systems to read physical speed signs and, with a simple prompt from the driver, will adjust the adaptive cruise control as it recognizes changes in the speed limit.

qrescue

recycled and recyclable

Renault's sustainability-focused mindset takes form in Megane E-Tech, with no less than 28kg of recycled plastics in the cabin. This includes the ultra-comfortable seats, which are made from 100% recycled plastic bottles. But it doesn't stop with the interior trims. Up to 90% of the vehicle's materials, including the battery, are recyclable.

qrescue

peace and quiet

More than 300 patents have been lodged for the design of the vehicle and its platform. The cocoon effect is a proprietary soundproofing technology which places a unique soft cushioning foam layer between the vehicle and the battery to create a haven from road noise, in fact it reduces in-car noise by 50% compared to current models. As a 100% electric vehicle, Megane E-Tech already produces no noise pollution, so the cocoon effect brings an unprecedented level of acoustic comfort.

weight and water

To maximise Megane E-Tech's driving range, it was important to reduce the weight of components during manufacturing. Renault developed a new, patented industrial process where water is injected during the plastic molding process to carve out a groove in the rear hatch which means fewer metal supports are required, reducing the weight by 20%. This is just one of the innovations which makes Megane E-Tech one of the lightest EVs on the road at 1,642kg.
